WEB ACCESSIBILITY (WCAG)

What are the WCAG?

The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) are the international standard that defines how websites should be designed and developed to be accessible to everyone. They are developed by the Web Accessibility Initiative (WAI) of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) and serve as the foundation for digital accessibility legislation in Spain and across the European Union.

Their main goal is clear: to ensure that any user, including people with visual, auditory, motor, or cognitive limitations, can navigate, understand, and interact with digital content.

The most recent version, WCAG 2.2, published in October 2023, expands on the previous criteria and introduces new guidelines specifically designed to improve the experience of users with cognitive disabilities, vision problems, or fine motor difficulties.

Why is web accessibility important?

Digital accessibility is not only a legal requirement, it is also a commitment to inclusion and equal opportunities. An accessible website:

  • Expands your audience: it allows more people to interact with your content and services.
  • Improves user experience: accessibility goes hand in hand with usability, resulting in clearer and more intuitive navigation.
  • Ensures compliance: an increasing number of regulations in Spain and Europe require websites and applications to be accessible.
  • Strengthens brand image: showing social commitment and sensitivity towards all people adds real value to your company.
